Crimson Glow

In this painting I was after an impression of otherworldly beauty - a glowing atmospheric phenomenon evoking wonder and awe. To help capture this effect, I used a minimalist approach to detail, allowing the interplay of vivid color and silhouettes to convey a powerful sense of place and feeling. Framed in an elegant black metal floater frame with a 1/8" silver lip.

Yellow Sky

Here I pushed the sky into an alternate reality striving to capture the mode of a day in its first transition towards evening. Oil on gallery wrapped linen.

Magenta Evening

With this painting I seek to capture one of those transcendent moments we experience in nature—fleeting instances of wonder that often prove elusive to photograph or to even recall in their full emotional impact. This is part of a series I call 'moodscapes': semi-abstract landscapes born from imagination and accumulated experience rather than direct observation.

My work stems from a simple truth: sometimes nature shows us something that takes us completely out of our ordinary world. Using broken, semi-abstracted brushwork and vivid colors, I work to recreate not just how these moments look, but how they feel—the way they lift our spirits and remind us that we're part of something bigger.

My process is largely intuitive, drawing from countless hours painting both the dramatic and subtle aspects of the natural world. I strive to create paintings that might spark viewers' own memories of meaningful encounters with nature. The larger scale of these canvases helps create an engaging experience, while the broken brushwork and semi-abstraction help to capture nature's energy and movement.

These 'moodcapes' are meant to bring some of nature’s vitality into our homes and daily lives. In a world where we spend so much time looking at screens, these paintings offer a different kind of window—one that might remind us of those moments when nature shows us its power to refresh our perspective and lift our spirits.

Transition I

This piece is part of an emerging series exploring the intersection of landscape art and abstraction, with a colorist bent. It is linen stretched on 1.5inch deep stretchers. I can be hung unframed (edges are painted), or it looks great in a minimalist floater frame.  It is priced as unframed.

Sunset's Last Kiss

Painted from views from Bernal Heights in San Francisco.  Continuing my exploration of the line between abstraction and inner luminosity, this piece furthers the progression that has emerged over the last few years.  Oil on stretched linen.  This is on deep 1.5 inch stretcher bars with painted sides.  Suitable for hanging as-is for a more contemporary look.

In Transition

As a continuation of my obsessive exploration of grand skies and extreme lighting conditions, this piece explores the experience of a remarkable and unique moment in time.

Enchanted

Glowing vibrant skies have been the subject I'm most drawn to in this body of work.  This piece continues my exploration of this subject, juxtaposing purple clouds against an orange sky.  I integrated water into the foreground largely so that I could reflect the sun and balance out the composition.  Done from memory, this piece was completed over a number of painting sessions as the image slowly emerged from the canvas.

Crescendo

This imagined landscape is a channeling of years of different painting experiences.  Of late I've been starting paintings with only vague mental images of where I want to go.  Much as authors describe how characters they've created later take over and write the story themselves, these paintings take on a life of their as they develop.

Warm Winter

This is the largest piece I've done completely plein air (outdoors) to date (24x30 inches).  I love how it turned out.

I had a number of consecutive days available with fantastic weather projections, so I took it upon myself to try to work a large piece.

I have a blog entry describing the creation of this piece, which you can find here: http://timonsloane.com/blog/painting-large-format-plein-air-outdoors

This is oil on cradled masonite board (half-inch deep cradle).  I can be hung as-is, or framed if you prefer.  It is currently priced as available unframed.  An image of it framed is included for reference.  The framed price is $3200.

Various sized custom reproductions of this piece can be ordered here:  http://fineartamerica.com/featured/warm-winter-timon-sloane.html
